Charles Wiseman
2007 Outstanding Alumni
Dr. Charles R. Wiseman '59
After earning his DVM, Dr. Charles Wiseman returned to his home
town of San Antonio to open a small animal private practice. He
served the Bexar County area for the next 37 years, including a
stint as president of the Bexar County Veterinary Medical
Association, before retiring to run his ranch.
While serving his clients for so many years, Wiseman never
forgot his alma mater. In fact, his generosity with both his time
and funds has contributed greatly to Texas A&M University and
the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
Wiseman, his father and his sister endowed a scholarship at the CVM
in memory of his mother, and along with two other men, he endowed a
chair in cardiology for the college. He is also providing the
funding for a new façade at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital. In
addition, he served as chairman of the CVM "One Spirit One Vision"
campaign leadership committee.
The CVM has not been the only recipient of his generosity.
Wiseman served as president of the Aggie Club (now the 12th Man
Foundation) in 1976, and endowed an athletic scholarship. His
support provided the scoreboards in G. Rollie White and the Aggie
Softball Complex, and helped to create the volleyball portion of
the Sports Museum. Wiseman has also given generously to the Texas
A&M football program.
Wiseman and his wife, Patricia have continuously given to the
university, including the funding of a Presidential Scholarship
with son Vince and son-in-law David in memory of their daughter,
Polly Wiseman Franklin '86.
Wiseman is an active member of the Alamo Heights United
Methodist Church and has served the church in many capacities. He
also enjoys traveling, hunting and ranching with Pat and their son
Vince '82, a radiologist in Austin. He has served as the president
of the San Antonio Gun Club and the Texas International Gun
Club.
Described by his peers as a man of character, Wiseman is a 2007
Distinguished Alumni because, in the words of R.C. Slocum, "He has
blazed a brilliant trail and has cast a great reflection back on
his university."
