Thomas Hairgrove
2006 Outstanding Alumni
Dr. Thomas Hairgrove, '74
Dr. Thomas Hairgrove is a well respected mixed practice
veterinarian who envisions a bright future for the beef industry.
Hairgrove actively promotes cooperative efforts between the
veterinary medical profession and the beef industry. He was one of
the first practitioners to embrace the Texas Beef Quality Assurance
(BQA) Program, and he recently developed several area programs held
throughout the year for veterinary practitioners to become more
involved in BQA producer education meetings. The conferences
Hairgrove conducts cover disease detection, prevention and
treatment as well as nutritional strategies and biosecurity
measures.
Hairgrove was awarded the 2002 Veterinary Diagnostician of the
Year Award by the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory
and the 2004 Merial Preventative Medicine Award by Merial and the
American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He is a member of
numerous veterinary medical associations and serves on several
state and national committees that focus on animal disease and
prevention.
Hairgrove and his wife, Peggy, are active members of their
community and church in Haskell, Texas. He serves as Administrative
Council Chair of the First United Methodist Church and has been the
president of the Haskell Chamber of Commerce, president of the
Haskell CISD and president of the Haskell Rotary Club. A former
Eagle Scout, Hairgrove is also the Eagle Scout mentor for the
Haskell Boy Scouts of America. The Hairgroves' son, Ross, also an
Eagle Scout, is a sophomore at Texas A&M University.
