"From Bench to Shop" offers the opportunity to earn a training
certificate in Scientific Business Development and Management.
This certificate enables 21st century researchers
(graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and/or early career
faculty) to plan, execute, evaluate, and transition Transboundary
Animal Disease (TAD) research technologies to the global
marketplace. Specifically, participants will gain an understanding
of the business regulations, federal and international processes,
and research requirements needed to take Research and Development
(R&D) ideas from basic and/or applied research through
This program is sponsored by the Department of Homeland
Security's (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate. To download an

The program offers a highly-valued experience unique in the
select agent and TAD world. This course is valued at $10,000 per
participant. A $2,000 training certificate fee (and $30 processing
fee) is required from each selected trainee which is paid by a
sponsor (usually your university or employer).
This program provides:
- All travel expenses for the 3-week experiential course,
including flights, lodging, local transportation, and meals in
College Station, Texas, USA; Galveston, Texas, USA; Ft. Collins,
Colorado, USA; and Onderstepoort, South Africa
- Online course access and all materials
- Experiential course materials, including laboratory supplies
and training notes
