Scholarly Interests
Dr. Cudd is an active researcher in the field of FetalAlcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) which is the full collection of fetalabnormalities that can occur when a women abuses alcohol during pregnancy. It is estimated that 2-5% of children born inthe United States are affected resulting in significant societal costs. Specifically, Dr. Cudd uses sheep to modelthis condition and is interested in identifying the basic pathologicalmechanisms responsible for causing these disorders, how to better identifythese disorders in children and ways to prevent or reduce the negative impactof prenatal alcohol exposure.
