Change of Major

 

Current Texas A&M Students

Current students who are interested in changing their major to Biomedical Sciences or University Studies with a Veterinary Medicine Concentration (USVM) will be required to attend a change of major meeting during the semester in which they wish to change. Applications will be available at the meeting. Please visit our Change of Major page for more information.

Students must complete the following paperwork:

Requirements to change to BIMS

  • Require 2.50 cumulative GPA at Texas A&M
  • Must have completed one full semester (12 graded credit hours) at Texas A&M
  • Must have less than 75 credit hours
  • Prefer at least 2 courses from the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) list with a grade of C or better from TAMU

Change of major BIMS: Beginning with the 10-week census date, June 3, 2016, students who are changing majors into BIMS (effective Fall, 2016 or after): Change of major requirements to BIMS will be the following:

  • 2.5 overall TAMU GPA
  • At least 12 graded hours at TAMU
  • No more than 75 overall passed hours
  • At least two math/science courses from the CBK list must be completed at TAMU with a grade of “C” or better.

Note: All math/science courses from the CBK list must have a grade of “C” or better in each course taken at Texas A&M or a grade of “B” or better in each completed course if taken at a 2-year college in order to be admitted to BIMS upper-level courses.

Requirements to change to USVM

  • Require 2.00 cumulative GPA at Texas A&M
  • Must have completed one full seemster (12 graded credit hours) at Texas A&M
  • Prefer less than 100 credit hours

Change of major USVM: Beginning with the 10-week census date, June 3, 2016, students who are changing majors into USVM (effective Fall, 2016 or after): Change of major requirements to USVM will be the following:

  • 2.0 overall TAMU GPA
  • At least 12 graded hours at TAMU
  • No more than 100 overall passed hours
  • At least two science or math courses from the following list, completed at TAMU with a passing grade; a grade of “C” or better is strongly recommended.
    • List of courses: Biology 111, 112, Chemistry 101/111, 102/112, Chemistry 227/237, Math 131 or 142 or 147 or 151 or 171
    • USVM is not a gateway to a BIMS degree program. If you pursue a USVM degree, you will not be allowed to switch to a BIMS degree program.

Change of Major Meetings

Prospective BIMS and USVM students must attend one of the following change of major meetings and submit a change of major application (form) available at the meetings.

*Important Note about VIDI 127:

It is imperative that you read and follow the instructions below. If you get lost, call 979-845-4941 and someone will meet you in LOT 24 to direct you.  DO NOT walk around on your cell phones or playing games, particularly as you cross into North lot 24 denoted by an open construction fence. If you have a disability that needs accommodation for getting into the building, call and we will send someone out to assist you. Maps will be posted on the windows of our old offices.

1)            BEST ROUTE: From today through August 14, please see transport.tamu.edu for the active bus map and take ROUTE 3 to NCTM (on Discovery drive) and then walk East on the sidewalk to the TIPS building. (Alternatively pull the cord for the bus to stop at the TIPS parking lot, Discovery drive just across Raymond Stotzer from White Creek Apts.)  Follow the parking lot to lot 24 (see campus parking map) and enter VIDI on the north side of lot 24.  We are in SUITE 123.

a.            Beginning August 15, please see transport.tamu.edu for the active bus map and use ROUTE 9, which stops at VIDI. (VERY BEST WAY TO COME).

2)            There is not a good way to walk to us from campus right now.

3)            If you are going to drive (not recommended): Please see transport.tamu.edu for Lot 24 rules and regulations during summer and break.  Starting after the break: August 20, LOT 24 is PERMIT ONLY. http://transportmap.tamu.edu/parkingmap/tsmap.htm?map=bsm
