| Study Summary |
- This study will evaluate how much the concentrations of certain
molecules (NTproBNP and cardiac troponin I) change in the blood
stream of dogs with chronic leaky mitral valve disease
- Screening tests will ensure each dog is healthy, other than
their heart disease
- All screening tests will be paid for ONLY IF all eligibility
requirements are met
- This study is funded by the American Kennel Club (AKC)
- Only 2 visits are required for the study, exactly 7 days
apart

| Eligibility |
- Relatively healthy dogs weighing between 11 and 33 lbs
- Dogs with somewhat advanced leaky mitral valve disease (i.e
they have heart enlargement, and some will have been in congestive
heart failure previously)
- Willing to come to Texas A&M 2 times, exactly 7 days
apart
- No significant other diseases
- Client pays for the exam fee (~$30)
- if the patient qualifies for the study, then all screening
tests are free
- If the patient doesn't qualify for the study, then the client
pays for the exam and all screening tests performed
