- A special congratulation goes out to Dr. John Edwards in our
Veterinary Pathobiology Department. Dr. Edwards has been
awarded a University Level Association of Former Students
Distinguished Achievement Award in the category of
Graduate Mentoring. In referring to Dr. Edwards in a letter of
nomination, one colleague said, "He has an answer for every
question and without hesitation gives generously of his time,
knowledge, patience, and energy to residents, vet students, and
colleagues alike." With a rigorous selection process, these awards
are among the most prestigious that can be presented to faculty and
staff at Texas A&M University. Dr. Edwards will be presented
his award at the annual awards ceremony on April 27th at 1:30 pm in
Rudder Theater. The CVM family is very proud of Dr. Edwards and
this well-deserved recognition, and we hope to see many CVM
supporters at the ceremony cheering him on.
- CVM/TVMA Collaboration - During the TVMA
Mid-winter Conference, talks continued between the CVM and TVMA
about jointly offering Continuing Education programs. Everyone
continues to be excited about the potential to offer dynamic
programming featuring expertise from the CVM faculty. In the near
future, TVMA will send out surveys to their membership to gauge
interest in what programs should be offered in the future as a part
of this collaboration.
- World Veterinary Year is in full swing, so
don't forget to mark your calendars for April 27th when the next
part of the WVY Lecture Series is scheduled. Join us in the
auditorium of the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building on main
campus from 4-5:30 where a panel of veterinarians will discuss the
present global impact of veterinary medicine. Featured panelists
are Dr. Clay Ashley, Dr. Juan Romano, and Dr. Philippa Sprake
- And while you are looking at your calendars, be sure to block
the weekend of April 2. This is our CVM
Homecoming Weekend and Parents' Day. It begins on
April 1 with Honors Convocation, a special time to recognize
scholarship recipients and outstanding accomplishments of our
faculty and students. For more information, visit the
website. Following Honors Convocation, our second year students
will begin their transition from classroom to clinic with the annual White Coat
Ceremony. Friday evening, we recognize our college's
Outstanding Alumni at a special dinner at Miramont Country Club.
Tickets are $30, and must be purchased in advance from the
Development Office. Details are available on the
website. On Saturday, we wrap up a weekend of fun and
fellowship with a celebration at The Zone Club adjacent to Kyle
Field - the Gentle Doctor Scholarship Luncheon. Students, their
parents, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend. Some classes
will be hosting reunions during the luncheon, and many of our
scholarship donors will be attending. It's a great time to meet the
person who has provided a scholarship and thank them for their
contribution. For more information or to make your reservations
(only $15 per person), visit the GDSL website or contact Noell
Vance at 979-845-9043. It's going to be a great time, so be sure to
join us!
- The following weekend, on April 9th, is our annual Open
House that sees thousands of visitors arrive at the CVM to
learn more about our college and veterinary medicine. This
student-run event features new exhibits every year, so you don't
want to miss the opportunity to attend. Be sure to bring your
family and friends, and help spread the word! It would be great to
have another record-setting year for attendance after last year saw
right at 10,000 guests. Information on this annual event can be
found at the Open
House website. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Eleanor M. Green, DVM, DACVIM, DABVP
