Elect Her Program - nominations open

Posted October 09, 2017

Student Nominations for Elect Her: Aggie Women Win are now open!  Four years ago, Texas A&M University was selected as one of only 50 host sites for Elect Her–Campus Women Win, the only program in the country that encourages and trains college women to run for student government and future political office. Elect Her addresses the need to expand the pipeline for women running for office and to diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap.  This one day, nonpartisan conference allows Aggie women to engage in conversations about how to develop a message, connect with constituents, and learn from dynamic speakers about the ins and outs of the campaign trail.  Past Elect Her speakers include Rep. Sarah Davis (R - Houston), Rep. Ina Minjarez (D - San Antonio), Rep. Nicole Collier (D - Fort Worth), and Rep. Mary Ann Perez (D - Houston) of the Texas House of Representatives.

The 2017 Elect Her Conference will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.  More information can be found at

Research has demonstrated that many women with leadership qualities lack the confidence to apply or run for leadership positions or elected office.  Texas A&M faculty, staff, and mentors are in a unique position to identify and encourage those women to explore their leadership potential.  For this reason, we have allocated 50 seats at the Elect Her Workshop for women nominated by Texas A&M University staff, faculty, former students, and Elect Her Alumnae.  The remaining 50 seats are made available to women who apply to be a part of the workshop.

We are asking Texas A&M University faculty and staff to nominate female students for the program who:

  • Are interested in leadership roles on student organizations
  • Are thinking about running for student government
  • Are considering the possibility of running for future local, state, or national office
  • Embody the Aggie Core Values – Loyalty, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Selfless Service, and Respect
  • Would benefit from leadership training

Student Nominations will be accepted online through Wednesday, October 25, 2017.  Once a student has been nominated, they will be notified of their nomination and sent registration instructions via email.  Nominated students will have until Monday, October 30th to register for the conference.
