Scalpels: Learning Objectives
After completing this module you should be able to:
- Identify various scalpel blades and where they are commonly used in surgery
- Safely arm, disarm, and pass the scalpel to an assistant
- Demonstrate the three different scalpel grips, state when the different grips are used in surgery, and list the advantages and disadvantages of each scalpel grip
- Describe the methods of cutting with a scalpel blade, state when these methods of cutting are used in surgery, and list the advantages and disadvantages of each cutting method
- Explain the general elements necessary to create an ideal skin incision and demonstrate in detail each of the steps involved in creating an ideal skin incision
