Dr. Jose Garcia
Jose is interested in understanding the quantitative and
qualitative composition of the gastrointestinal microbiota of cats
and dogs, as well as the potential impact of age and other factors
on the abundance of intestinal bacteria during administration of
probiotics. Jose is also working in collaboration with Dr. Majid
Bani from the department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences in
the development of a mathematical approach to understand and
predict the effect of probiotics on native intestinal bacteria of
the dog. Jose is currently working in his thesis and plans to
finish his PhD program by December 2011. He enjoys discussing
science with his advisors Dr. Jan Suchodolski and Dr. Jorg Steiner,
playing with his son Damian, and chatting with his wife Alicia
every night at dinner. He has a guinea pig named Pedro, which is,
Jose says, "the best pet in the world".
