Dr. Julia Honneffer

Honneffer, Julia_5x7

Julia considers herself an Oregon native, though she has deeper family roots in Minnesota. She has always been interested in research and earned her MS in Inorganic Chemistry from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005. After working in an environmental lab for a couple of years and discovering that chemicals aren't nearly as much fun to play with as companion animals, she pursued veterinary medicine and earned her DVM from North Carolina State University in May 2013. During her clinical year, she became highly interested in the relationship between the gastrointestinal microbiota and the host metabolome, and joined the GI Lab in August 2013 to pursue her PhD. In her free time, Julia enjoys cooking, eating (gotta feed the microbes, yo!), gardening, and bicycling with her husband and playing with their two dogs and three cats.
