The Texas A&M University Large Animal Emergency and Critical
Care service offers 24-hour year-round examination and admission of
critically ill Large Animals, with a special focus on horses. The
service is overseen by Board Certified Specialists in Internal
Medicine, Surgery and Critical Care. The Intensive Care Unit is
staffed with Certified Veterinary technicians. The State-of-the-art
ICU facility includes adult ICU stall, mare-foal units, foaling
stalls, and a separate isolation facility for infectious diseases.
The ICU is equipped with the latest technology and monitoring
equipment including monitoring units, point-of-care blood analysis,
ventilator, specialized fluid delivery devices. Access to a full
clinical pathology laboratory is available 24 hours a day.
Theriogenology (reproduction), anesthesia, and radiology services,
overseen by Board Certified Faculty members, are also available on
demand, and a fully staffed surgical team is available for
emergency surgery.
