On Capitol Hill for AAVMC

Capital Chairman

What a privilege to spend time on Capitol Hill this month with Representative Bill Flores from Texas’ 17th Congressional District and House Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway along with faculty, veterinarians, AAVMC members, deans from other veterinary colleges, Aggie interns working at the Capitol, and of course our awesome government relations people, who helped to plan the event honoring our 100-year anniversary.

We were honored to have the opportunity to proclaim our 100-year milestone on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., with so many people on hand to toast to our success.

Representative Flores spoke about how, over the last century, our college has made immense progress. “Mark Francis would be very proud. He would be amazed to know the school he founded has made so many advancements in animal and human science, “Flores said. He went on to talk about our new Serving Every Texan Every Day initiative. “This partnership will help in our commitment to veterinary care and to serve our rural communities. You will see a huge benefit to taxpayers over the years. Keep up the good work.”

AAVMC 2016 Annual Conference

The evening could not have been possible with the good work of our awesome faculty, who made the trip to D.C. to talk about our cancer research, student instructor methods, our Veterinary Emergency Team, and the Texas A&M One Health Initiative. Approximately 100 people attended to network with us and learn more about what we are doing here in College Station!  We had a wonderful evening, and the conversations from that night with the D.C. folks continue even today. Job well done, team!
