Veterinary Enrichment Camp

Eighty high-school juniors and seniors from all across the United States were invited to the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) for the unique experience of Veterinary Enrichment Camp 2016. It was held on July 19 through 22, where the campers were fully immersed in the experience of being a veterinary student at Texas A&M.

These campers came highly recommended by their high school counselors and were chosen based on their stellar academic achievements, dedicated involvement in extracurricular activities, and having completed a rigorous amount of shadowing hours with their local veterinarian. Sessions attended by campers included in-depth lectures in parasitology with Dr. Thomas Craig and pathology with Dr. Brian Porter, tours of both the Large and Small Animal Hospitals, as well as hands-on activities that included various exotic animals from the Reptile Hospice & Sanctuary of Texas, suturing lesson with Dr. Michelle Pine, respiratory system physiology session with Dr. Larry Johnson, and an equine ophthalmology lab activity with Dr. Leslie Easterwood.

Many CVM faculty and staff members graciously volunteered to lead these sessions and activities in which the students gave rave reviews. Most asked if they could come back next year! Veterinary Enrichment Camp is a yearly event that demonstrates how the CVM is Serving Every Texan Every Day.
