Patterson Minority Fellowship
Patterson Minority Fellowship in the College of
Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M
University. Applications are invited from veterinarians
belonging to underrepresented minority groups who wish to undertake
advanced training/education to prepare for an academic career as a
faculty member in a college of veterinary medicine. The successful
applicant may pursue either a graduate degree in a Signature Program area at the CVM or
a three-year residency program in an AVMA-recognized veterinary
specialty offered by the college. The residency program may also be
combined with a graduate degree program. Signature Program areas
are cardiology,
toxicology,
genomics, reproductive biology, neurology, oncology,
and emerging
and infectious diseases. Residency training programs include large and small animal surgery, large and small animal internal
medicine, anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, oncology, theriogenology, radiology, zoological medicine, avian medicine, pathology, clinical pathology, and
microbiology. Each applicant must be a citizen of the United States
and a member of an under-represented minority group.
The College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences
provides state-of-the-art research facilities for graduate
education in its Signature Program areas and
outstanding mentorship by internationally renowned researchers. Our
residency
programs are intended to prepare highly skilled residents for
the qualifying and certifying examinations of an AVMA-approved
specialty college (e.g., American College of Veterinary Internal
Medicine). Case exposure is provided through the Veterinary Medical
Teaching Hospital (VMTH) which enjoys an annual caseload of
over 20,000 animals. The VMTH is a modern veterinary hospital with
state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities. A new Diagnostic Imaging
and Cancer Treatment Center is expected to be completed in
September of 2011 and will house a clinical 3T MRI, 40-slice CT
scanner, and CT-TOMO radiotherapy unit.
