Wetlabs
SVECCS hosts one wetlab per semester. Wetlabs are usually held
on weekends during the day, and they afford an excellent
opportunity for members to learn techniques important in emergency
medicine. Previous topics have included bandaging and casting
techniques, blood typing and other laboratory procedures, emergency
examinations, and emergency procedures such as venous cutdowns,
chest tube placement, intubation, and tracheotomies. Students
practice and refine their skills on cadavers and student animals
(the choice of subjects depending, of course, on the nature of the
lab), getting valuable hands-on practice.
This semester's wetlab will be held November 6th... stay
tuned!
Emergency Rounds
Emergency rounds are weekly, informal, interactive sessions in
which students are presented an emergency case by a clinician and
asked to provide a diagnostic and therapeutic plan. Rounds provide
an opportunity to apply our basic "classroom" knowledge to a
clinical situation. See above for dates.

National Convention
The Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society holds an
annual convention, IVECCS, every fall. Student members of VECCS are
welcome to volunteer at this event in exchange for free admission
to the conference. The International Veterinary Emergency and
Critical Care Symposium presents topics ranging from fluid therapy
to bandaging, and sessions encompass small animal, equine, and
exotic emergency medicine.
Next year's convention will be held September 8-15, 2012 at the
Grand Hyatt in San Antonio, Texas. We hope many students will
participate!!!
