Equine Internal Medicine
The Equine Internal Medicine service at Texas A&M is
committed to providing the gold standard of medical care to horses
and foals from all walks of life. Internal Medicine works
with patients with diseases of many body systems, including: lung,
upper airways, heart, liver, kidney and bladder, blood vessels,
blood and bone marrow, stomach and intestines, brain and spinal
cord, and endocrine glands. A wide variety of diseases can be
addressed by our service, from sudden-onset critical illness to
chronic conditions, and from congenital to auto immune to
infectious diseases. Our clinicians are Diplomates of the
American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and will work
closely with your veterinarian to provide the best care possible
for your horse. Working with the senior faculty are
4th year students, interns, and residents.
Research activities by our faculty in the Infectious Diseases and
Gastrointestinal Laboratories provide a connection to the latest
information.
Texas A&M University's Equine Internal Medicine service is
fully equipped to diagnose and care for horses and foals with a
wide range of symptoms, including weight loss, fever, respiratory
signs, acute or chronic colic, diarrhea, neurologic symptoms, and
many others. Access to the Clinical Pathology, Immunology,
and Microbiology laboratories of the College provide the most
accurate laboratory results available. We are also able to
perform endoscopy of the airway, stomach, proximal small intestine,
esophagus, and urinary bladder, and have access to one of the very
best radiographic and diagnostic ultrasound services in the
country. The size of our clinical faculty allows consultation
with other clinical services, such as Radiography, Dermatology,
Neurology and Cardiology, providing a tremendous resource of
specialists with advanced training, all under one roof.
Although our service commonly consults with veterinarians and
many of our cases are referred, no referral is needed to schedule
an appointment with our service.
