Minimally Invasive Surgeries

• Liver biopsy
• Gastropexy (suturing of stomach to abdominal wall to prevent life-threatening Gastric-Dilatation and Volvulus)
• Ovariectomy [OVE] (removal of the ovaries to sterilize a female dog)
• Ovariohysterectomy [OVH] (removal of the ovaries and uterus to sterilize a female dog) (compared to OVE, OVH requires a longer incision and more surgical time to remove the uterus)
• Cryptorchidectomy (removal of an intra-abdominal testicle)
• Adrenalectomy
• Cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal)
• Cystotomy (bladder stone removal)
• Pancreatic biopsies
• Intestinal biopsies
• Exploratory laparoscopy (to evaluate the abdominal organs)
• Exploratory thoracoscopy (to evaluate the thoracic organs; for example, with pyothorax)
• Arthroscopy (knee, elbow, shoulder, carpus (wrist), hock (ankle) and hip): with the Orthopedic Surgery Service
• Lung lobectomies/biopsies
• Pericardial window (for pericardial effusion or to obtain a pericardial biopsy)
• Portosystemic shunt attentuation †
• Thoracic duct ligation †
• Patent ductus arteriosus †
• Persistent right aortic arch †
• Thymoma removal †
• Tube cystostomy †

Surgeries that CANNOT be operated on using Minimally Invasive Surgery

• Large, bleeding or infected mass removals
• Mass removals near large vessels
• Peritonitis (inflammation/infection of the abdominal cavity)
• Adhesions from previous surgeries
