Photo of Clara

Clara is a second-year veterinary student interested in Zoo, Exotic, and Wildlife Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University, in environment and the humanities. Clara has a dog, Lulu, a cat, Treble, and a mouse, Benji, who complete her own little zoo!  She is interested in becoming involved with conservation work when she becomes a veterinarian.

“I’ve known I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was born, but I knew I wanted to do zoo medicine when I visited the Seattle Zoo when I was younger, and got a behind the scenes tour from the head veterinarian,” Clara said. “I was able to go in the enclosure with an aardvark recovering from surgery, and I knew then that I wanted to help these kinds of unique animals, who don’t have owners as advocates, and help be a part of keeping the world a little bit more wild.”

Vet School Survival Tip: Don’t get caught up in feeling overwhelmed. Everyone feels behind at some point, and you just have to push through and find someone to talk to about it! Your vet school friends will be a huge resource and comfort to you during the tough times. And don’t forget to find something you love each day, and let it keep you joyful!
