Raena

Raena 2013

Raena is a third year veterinary student who wants to practice small animal medicine. She received her undergraduate degree Biology and Biomedical Sciences from University of Texas at El Paso. While she is not studying, she enjoys going to the movies, being with friends and family, and any outdoor activities. She has two dogs named Peanut and Poppy.

"I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian when I was a sophomore in college," Raena said. "I mean, I always knew I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I wanted to be sure that was really the right career for me. I explored all my options: a Master's degree or PhD in a biological field, conservation medicine, even a high school instructor. The career that kept coming back, and the one I found I loved deeply, was, in fact, veterinary medicine!"

Raena's vet school survival tip: "Try to remain calm and try to take time out to treat yourself for all your hard work. You deserve it!"
