Dr. Jianrong Li
Research
Our lab is interested in elucidating the cellular and molecular
mechanisms of cell development, injury, and repair process of the
central nervous system. Specifically, we investigate the mechanisms
involved in oligodendrocyte death in white matter injuries, such as
multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. We use a variety of
approaches including primary cell cultures and transgenic and
knockout animals to elucidate signal pathways mediating
oligodendrocyte injury. The second focus of our laboratory is to
develop strategies to promote oligodendrocyte survival and the
repair process after injury. These studies should contribute
significantly to our understanding of mechanisms of oligodendrocyte
development and injury, and uncover new clues for potential
prevention and treatment of human white matter diseases.
