Faculty Position in Radiology (Tenure Track)

The Department of Veterinary Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Radiology at academic rank of assistant or associate professor, or full professor, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and credentials. Candidates must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree. Applicants must be board certified or have met the requirements to take the board exam of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Applicants must meet requirements for special licensure in the State of Texas.

The academic home of faculty members in radiology is the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department at Texas A&M University but they provide medical imaging services for small, large and exotic animals. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute primarily to the patient care and teaching missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, while participating collaboratively in research and other scholarly activities.

Job Description

The radiology service provides medical imaging services for small, large and exotic animals. These services encompass: small animal ultrasonography, large and small animal radiology, MRI, computed tomography, and nuclear medicine. The clinical assignments to the different imaging services will be based on clinical needs, professional interest, and expertise of the radiology team. The successful candidate will have opportunity to provide leadership for the development and introduction of new techniques and concepts that will enhance the quality and scope of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s patient care programs. Each radiologist has the opportunity to provide and participate in continuing education presentations in state, national, and specialty meetings.

The successful candidate must be board certified in the American College of Veterinary Radiology, or have met the requirements to sit the examination. If the candidate has not completed board certification at the time of hire, this must be accomplished within two years of hiring date. The successful candidate will be expected to be effective in institutional citizenship, teaching and scholarly activity, with the greatest time commitment and greatest expectation for excellence in teaching and the scholarship of applied medical sciences (providing advanced patient care and diagnostic services as further defined below).

I. Institutional Citizenship:

The successful candidate will participate actively in Departmental, College, University and specialty organization committee service and other leadership activities, and will demonstrate collegiality also in all aspects of the job.

II. Teaching:

The successful candidate will participate with other radiologists in teaching and mentorship of veterinary students, interns, and residents through the radiology and advanced imaging clinical services as well as through didactic lectures and laboratories related to imaging in the veterinary professional curriculum. The successful candidate will provide leadership that will enhance the quality and scope of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s patient care program and provide guidance and mentorship in the radiology residency training program. Excellence in teaching is expected of all faculty members in this department.

III. Scholarship of Discovery, Integration, Application, and Teaching:

Scholarship, defined as creative intellectual work that is validated by peers and communicated, can encompass: Discovery, (research or the creation of new knowledge); Integration (dissemination of new knowledge whereby the relationship of knowledge and thought are considered and explained); and Teaching (development of new teaching methods that are made available and adopted by others through peer-reviewed publications and other means of dissemination.)

Patient care (Scholarship of Applied Medical Sciences) -the practice of one’s art, science or discipline and the development of technology and the integration of the new knowledge into patient care, as well as providing outstanding care to patients of the veterinary medical teaching hospital.

The College expects that all faculty members demonstrate a level of scholarship that is commensurate to their assignment. Each faculty member will have opportunities and expectations in each area of scholarship. Participation in the Scholarship of Teaching and Discovery are highly valued and required for those in a tenure track position, whereas the primary emphasis area for clinical track faculty members will be the Scholarship of Integration which encompasses continuing education.
