Director of Recruitment and Student Services

The College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) ( at Texas A&M University invites applications/nominations for a full-time, professor or associate professor, professional track or tenure track position at the College focusing on DVM student recruiting, diversity initiatives, career counseling, student mentoring, guidance of student clubs and organizations, support of student leadership positions, and support of student well-being. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a role in teaching, important student events and student-related committees such as orientation, white coat ceremony, parents’day, graduation and the student-faculty liaison committee. The successful candidate will become part of the Professional Programs group within the Dean’s Office, and may have a joint appointment in one of the five departments within the College, depending on the individual’s area of interest and expertise.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree from an AVMA- accredited university and eligibility for licensure in the state of Texas. The candidate must have a current level of knowledge in diagnostics/ therapy/surgical skills, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving that will allow them to support and advise students in the DVM curriculum. The successful candidate will articulate a vision for strengthening DVM education, including diversity and cultural competence, that is consistent with the mission of the College and University, and will be able to think in an innovative manner outside the norms of veterinary medical education. A record of collegiality within a department and college is essential. The candidate should have a demonstrated interest and/or expertise in professional education of veterinary students or other professional students. Board certification and/or advanced degrees will be considered a positive factor.

Requirements for the position include

  • A DVM (or equivalent) degree
  • A record of teaching excellence, student interest and academic service
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Positive attributes

  • Board certification in a veterinary specialty
  • Experience in academic or corporate administration
  • An advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA, MPH)
