Scholarly Interests

Work in my laboratory focuses on the molecular interactions between the Salmonella enterica and intestinal epithelial cells. I am particularly interested in how Salmonella spp. regulate gene expression in response to environmental signals and how mammalian hosts respond to Salmonella infection. I am also interested in how Salmonella spp. survive in the external environment and are transmitted within animal populations and antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella. In addition to our work in Salmonella, members of my laboratory study the role of methicillin resistance on survival and virulence of commensal and pathogenic Staphylococcus spp, particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP).
