BIMS student Cassie Weyland was named an Outstanding Junior by the Texas A&M University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest and largest interdisciplinary honor society in the United States. She and eight other students from each college at Texas A&M received a $500 scholarships and plaques.
The CVM Communications Team has been recognized with the 2016 American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges Communications Excellence Award. The award includes a $1,000 honorarium, a plaque, and public recognition. It will be presented during the annual meeting of the Association of Veterinary Advancement Professionals on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas.
Jennie L. Lamb, a graphic designer in CVM Communications and president of the Brazos Valley chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), has been honored with an invitation to serve as a member of the IABC Credentials Committee, which oversees protocol, delegates, and voting requirements for the meeting. Jennie has also been invited to take part in the Global Communication Certification Council’s (GCCC) job task analysis.
Veterinary students Marilyn Conner and Nicholas Kiefer received the Robert Wiggs Dental Scholarship, which includes a $1,000 scholarship and funds up to $1,500 each to attend the Dental Forum Conference in Minneapolis, MN.
Winners of the Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program from Texas A&M were: Erin Black, Anthony Blanco, Marilyn Conner, Linda Cummins, Jessica Czerny, Heritage Hill, Kristen Horsley, Ieva Jansky, Robin Jones, Meahan Ryan, Elizabeth Vielma, Laura Waltzer, David Wilbur, Samuel Wilinson, and Jiajie Jessica Xu.
Dr. Joerg Steiner was voted president-elect of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine’s Small Animal Internal Medicine specialty. He will assume the presidency in 2018.
Rachel Curtis has been chosen as the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP) – Merck Outstanding Graduate Student for 2016. She was nominated by Dr. Sarah Hamer. Rachel will present a paper at the conference and will receive reimbursement of the AAVP expenses necessary to attend the annual AAVP meeting. She will also receive an engraved plaque, and a monetary award of $1000 provided by Merck. The AVAP will hold its 61st Annual Meeting at the Westin Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, August 6-9, 2016. Congratulations Rachel on this well-deserved recognition.
Dr. Linda Logan, professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology and director of International Programs at the CVM, was recently honored by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine with an with a 2016 Alumni Achievement Award.
