CVM Dean's Impact Award Recipients Honored at the CVM Centennial Holiday Reception During the reception, Dr. Green awarded five Dean's Impact Awards. The Dean's Impact Award is intended to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the college. Recipients can be within the college, from the campus, from the TAMU System, or friends of the college. Dean's Impact Award recipients included John Sharp, Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, Dr. Karan Watson, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs of Texas A&M University, Dr. Charles W. "Doc" Graham '53, Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M University, Outstanding Alumnus of the CVM and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, business owner, and friend of the college, Dr. Kenita Rogers, Executive Associate Dean of the CVM, Ms. Heather Quiram, Interim Director of Facilities at the CVM.

Belgium Trade Mission Visits the CVM
Texas A&M University's Division of Research assisted in facilitating a large trade mission from Belgium on Wednesday, December 7. A dozen or so members of the trade mission delegation joined a tour of the Texas A&M System's bio-corridor facilities and visited the CVM's new Veterinary & Biomedical Education Complex (VBEC). When the holiday letter failed to arrive last December, I worried. And I recalled two letters from decades earlier. I received the first during my sophomore year of high school. In it, an early-career scientist I'll call Dr. E told me another candidate had received the summer research opportunity I had sought.
He ended the letter by saying he hoped he could accept me the next year.

| CVM Students Receive Doctorates at December Commencement Exercises
On Dec. 16, 2016, eight graduate students from the CVM were awarded their PhD degrees. Five of them attended the ceremony to receive their diplomas and be hooded.

Dr. Leslie Easterwood Joins AAEP Board of Directors
Leslie Easterwood, DVM, clinical assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) at Texas A&M University, has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). Easterwood was installed during the Dec. 6 President's Luncheon at the AAEP's 62nd Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla. Her three-year term expires in 2019.

The Kleberg Foundation approved funding in the amount of $280,000 over three years for Dr. Stephen Safe's cancer research. They were extremely impressed with the work of the research team and Dr. Safe.

The Leadership Institute (LI) is a program conducted each year by Texas A&M's Employee & Organizational Development for employees who are currently in organizational leadership positions or expect to be in such positions in the near future. The institute strives to enhance employees' leadership capabilities in their current and subsequent leadership roles. Kimberly Koehler, veterinary technician III in the Small Animal Hospital; Misty Skaggs, chief of staff in the Office of the Dean; and Dana Whitaker, also a veterinary technician III in the Small Animal Hospital, recently graduated as members of the 2016 LI Class.

DVM student Alesha Rimmelin has been selected as a recipient of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation's (AVMF) 2016 AVMF/Auxiliary to the American Veterinary Medicial Association (AVMA) Legacy Scholarship. One recipient was selected at each of the AVMA accredited veterinary colleges in the United States, Caribbean, and Canada.

The Banfield Foundation is funding a new truck-based veterinary medical platform for the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team (VET). This will allow the VET to design a highly-mobile and purpose-driven emergency response platform from the ground up, specifically for the team's unique needs in the field.
