{"id":11,"date":"2020-02-03T19:27:19","date_gmt":"2020-02-03T19:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vetmed.tamu.edu\/bims-graduate-program\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2024-05-20T18:28:20","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T18:28:20","slug":"ms-non-thesis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/vetmed.tamu.edu\/bims-graduate-program\/degree-programs\/ms-non-thesis\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Science (MS) Non-Thesis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-program-overview\">Program Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) MS Non-Thesis degree program equips students with a strong foundation in the biomedical sciences and provides an educational experience that positions students to achieve their aspirations of becoming health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most BIMS MS Non-Thesis students aim to pursue a professional program of study in one of the various fields of medicine. With <a href=\"\/bims-graduate-program\/degree-programs\/ms-non-thesis\/curriculum-requirements\/\">30 semester credit hours of science courses and electives<\/a>, this program offers students the opportunity to strengthen their professional program application by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving academic preparation in foundational subjects related to biomedical sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raising science grade point average (GPA), upper-level science GPA, and last 45-hour GPA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staying academically engaged while preparing for standardized tests, working part-time, or participating in clinical shadowing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students have the flexibility of progressing through the program carrying a full or part-time academic load. While the majority of students complete the program in four semesters with full-time enrollment, it is important to note that many progress through the program while working part-time jobs and\/or participating in clinical shadowing opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the program&#8217;s first semester, students select a graduate faculty mentor. This faculty mentor supports students by providing mentorship, guiding and approving coursework selection, and overseeing the <a href=\"https:\/\/vetmed.tamu.edu\/bims-graduate-program\/degree-programs\/ms-non-thesis\/capstone-experience\/\">capstone experience<\/a>, a hallmark for improving a student&#8217;s competitiveness for both admission and success in their chosen professional program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BIMS MS Non-Thesis students are also supported by a full-time <a href=\"https:\/\/vetmed.tamu.edu\/graduate-programs\/contact-us\/dee-cooper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">staff academic advisor<\/a> in the VMBS Office for Research &amp; Graduate Studies.
