+ – Why is there a Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) satellite clinic in the VMBS?
The Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) satellite office is made possible by a collaboration between the School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) and CAPS in order to make it easier for VMBS students to access counseling services.
+ – Who provides services?

Services are provided by licensed mental health professionals.

+ – Where is the CAPS satellite office located?

The offices are located in VIDI 219 and VIDI 216.

+ – When are services available?

Hours are available weekdays during business hours and some evenings by appointment. Availability varies week to week with appointments and other responsibilities. To learn more about current availability, contact the VMBS professional counselors by email at vetcounselor@caps.tamu.edu.

+ – What types of services are available?

A variety of counseling services are offered to students. These include:

  • Personal Counseling
  • Academic Counseling
  • Couple Counseling
  • Consultation
  • Biofeedback
  • Presentations and Workshops
+ – Are psychiatric services available through the CAPS satellite office?

Psychiatric services, including the use of medication to reduce certain symptoms, are not available at the CAPS satellite office. However, psychiatric services are available by referral at the CAPS office at White Creek. The Veterinary Counselor can assist in making a referral if appropriate.

+ – Are there other resources that might be helpful to me?

Information about a variety of resources can be found on the CAPS website. In particular, the following services are noteworthy:

CAPS Helpline: If you wish to speak to someone about a concern after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays (until 8:00 a.m. the following weekday) or 24/7 on the weekends, the Helpline is an excellent resource. The hotline phone number is 979.845.2700.

Mental Health Screenings: If you have some concerns but are unsure about meeting with a mental health professional, the online screenings are a helpful first step to explore whether consulting with a mental health professional is likely to be beneficial.

CAPS Virtual Self-Help Library: If you want help for academic improvement, career exploration, or overall well-being, the virtual library is a convenient place to start.

Sanvello App: Sanvello is a mobile app based on cognitive behavioral therapy that provides daily tools aimed at breaking the cycle of negative thoughts and emotions that contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression. The mental health and wellness app offers an array of tools such as mindfulness and relaxation activities, health tracking, journaling, and goal setting.
