Why are University Health Services (UHS) embedded counselors in Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS)?<\/strong><\/strong>

Embedded counselors at the VMBS ensure accessibility to mental health care and resources for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program students, as well as interns and residents at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). This embedded counselor program is a partnership between the VMBS and the UHS.<\/p> <\/div>

Who is eligible to make an appointment with a VMBS-embedded counselor?<\/strong><\/strong>

Students enrolled in the DVM program, including residents and interns at the VMTH, are eligible to make an appointment to see a UHS counselor embedded within the VMBS.<\/p> <\/div>

What types of services are available?<\/strong><\/strong>

A variety of counseling services<\/a> are offered to DVM students, residents, and interns. Services include personal counseling, academic counseling, couple counseling (both partners must be enrolled at Texas A&M University), consultation, and presentations and workshops.<\/p> <\/div>

Are psychiatric services available through the embedded University Health Services counselors?<\/strong><\/strong>

Psychiatric services, including the use of medication to reduce certain symptoms, are not available at the UHS counseling office in the VMBS. However, psychiatric services are available through the main campus UHS locations at the A.P. Beutel Student Health Center<\/a> and the Student Counseling & Mental Health Care Center<\/a>.<\/p> <\/div>

Licensed mental health professionals<\/a> provide these services.<\/p> <\/div>

Where are the counseling offices located?<\/strong><\/strong>

The offices are located in VIDI<\/a> 219 and VIDI<\/a> 216.<\/p> <\/div>

When are services available?<\/strong><\/strong>

Services are available weekdays during normal business hours and some evenings by appointment. Appointment availability varies weekly. DVM students can book an appointment online<\/a>. Residents and interns can request appointments by contacting the counselors at vetcounselor@tamu.edu<\/a>. Contact the VMBS-embedded counselors with any questions.<\/p> <\/div>
