National Disability Independence Day

National Disability Independence Day is celebrated each year on July 26. This day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The ADA provides protection from employment discrimination as well as better access to goods, services, and communications for people with disabilities.

  • Aggie ACHIEVE – Aggie ACHIEVE at Texas A&M University is a four-year comprehensive transition program (CTP) for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who have exited high school. Aggie ACHIEVE provides an inclusive and immersive college education and equips students for employment in the community. 
  • CVMBS’s Aggie ACHIEVE Course – In fall 2020, the CVMBS began offering the trailblazing course Animals in Society as part of the program, setting new standards for inclusivity as the first veterinary college in the United States to offer a course for students with IDD.
  • Accessibility Aggieland – The purpose of this series is to promote proactive accessibility and educate the campus community about many different places where accessibility is important.
