Transferring into the DVM Professional Program

Transfer Requirements

    1. Submit a letter to the Associate Dean for Professional Programs specifying:
      • Reason(s) for requesting transfer;
      • Desired date of transfer; and
      • Class and semester of the curriculum into which the transfer is requested.
    2. Provide a letter of character and academic reference (including class ranking) from the Dean of the college of veterinary medicine from which the student desires the transfer.
    3. Provide two letters of reference from former instructors who are members of the faculty of the college of veterinary medicine from which the student desires the transfer.
    4. Provide all academic transcripts (i.e., undergraduate, graduate, and professional). Academic accomplishments will be evaluated using all grades provided.

Eligibility

    1. Completed all previous DVM Professional Program courses in an American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA)-accredited college of veterinary medicine.
    2. Have successfully completed the academic term preceding the semester into which the student requests transfer.
    3. Be ranked in the top 20% of their DVM Professional Program class.
    4. Comply with all requirements for transfer into the Texas A&M University as described in the current catalog.
    5. May only request a transfer into the second through seventh semester of the DVM Professional Program curriculum.
    6. At the time of matriculation in the VMBS, the student must certify by letter to the Associate Dean for Professional Programs that they have not been convicted of crimes in the period from first enrollment in the college of veterinary medicine, from which the student desires the transfer, until the date of matriculation at Texas A&M University.

Final Decision

The final decision for approval of transfer will be made by the VMBS Executive Committee after review of the transfer request by Progress Committees I and II of the Texas A&M VMBS. The following additional factors will be included in the evaluation process:

    1. Existence of appropriate vacancy
    2. Curricular requirements having been satisfied
    3. Student’s reason(s) for requesting transfer
    4. Letters of reference
    5. Citizenship and state residency

Note: Deadline for receipt of transfer requests for the fall semester is June 15 of a given year.
