New VTPB Department Head Selected

Dr. Ramesh Vemulapalli came to Texas A&M from Purdue University, where he served as a professor of Veterinary Immunology/Microbiology and the Department Head of Comparative Pathobiology. Vemulpalli brings his expertise in veterinary science to the CVM.

The CVM Staff Awards took place Tuesday, August 16th. The awards program began at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast and musical entertainment by Dr. Johnathon Dodd. The closing remarks were made by Dr. Eleanor M. Green, the Carl B. King dean of veterinary medicine. Special thanks to the awards committee for making this possible.

DVM First Year Student Orientation

The CVM held its orientation program for the incoming class of 2020 on Aug. 17-19, 2016. Students participated in activities and events to help integrate them into the CVM family, including meetings with their mentors, introduction to the faculty, wellness activities, and tours of the facility.

BIMS

BIMS Students Begin Classes in VBEC

The BIMS program welcomed approximately 2,331 undergraduate students (unofficial) for the fall semester’s enrollment, with over 692 incoming freshmen (unofficial).

     
CVM Supports Research in Pakistan

CVM Supports USDA

Approximately 30 Department of Plant Protection officials and other agricultural professionals from across Pakistan participated in a two-day USDA training in late July. The CVM contributed to the conference by developing several online modules that conference attendees took prior to the conference.

In August 2016, a delegation of scientists from the Institute of Animal Health (IAH) in the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Guangdong, China visited the Texas A&M One Health Initiative team to explore future collaborative research and educational opportunities.

Leif Andersson

Texas A&M Professor Chosen as Honorary Member of International Society for Animal Genetics

Dr. Leif Andersson, Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI) faculty fellow at the CVM and professor at Uppsala University in Sweden, was recently named an honorary member of the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG). Only 16 scientists have received this prestigious recognition since ISAG was established as an international society for research on animal genetics in 1974.

Wesley Williams, DVM ’10 was the winner of the CVM gift basket at the AVMA reception and was also the first recipient of the Dorothy Hendricks Scholarship while pursuing his DVM. He assisted in making the scholarship the largest annual scholarship awarded at the CVM.

The National Cancer Institute announced that Dr. Jonathan Levine and Dr. Beth Boudreau’s NIH P30 supplement award will be funded. The total award is about $500,000 and is jointly awarded to researchers at the CVM and MD Anderson Cancer Research Center.
