David Kessler is a native Texan and a higher education professional with a passion for student success. After serving as a student leader on campus and earning a baccalaureate degree from Texas A&M University in 2000, David began his training and career in higher education student affairs at the University of Texas at Austin where he first gained experience in student organization advising, leadership training, and policy development before moving into academic advising. At the University of Texas at San Antonio, David spent nearly 8 years as an academic advisor to undergraduate students and became a leader for improving the climate for inclusion on campus and in the professional organizations in which her served. Most recently, in 2012, David joined the TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences as academic advisor for graduate studies. In June 2015, David earned a PhD in Higher Education at the University of North Texas and was promoted to Academic Coordinator for Graduate Studies. Additionally, David promotes diversity and inclusion with his involvement in a number of initiatives in the college and nationally as a leader in NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
David has a supportive family that includes his wife, Sherree – who is also an academic advisor, and his daughter, Zoey, as well as three cats. When not spending time at the park or doing something else with the family, David can be found reading about higher education or other nonfiction publications, or he may be watching television.
