Ilana awarded American Society of Mammalogy – 2023 Black and Indigenous Scholars in Mammalogy Award!
Ilana hypothesizes that the gut microbiome may be a key predictor of the clinical outcome of Trypanosoma cruzi infections in mammals. With the new ASM support, Ilana will study wild mammals including raccoons, coyotes, and bats as well as domestic dogs and mammals in the Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collections at TAMU (Dr. Jessica Light’s lab) to quantify T. cruzi infections, microbiota composition, and selected clinical outcomes.
