Dr. Dickson D. Varner held the Pin Oak Stud Chair of Stallion Reproductive Studies, is an active-retired professor of Theriogenology in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (VLCS) at the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) and also held a joint appointment in the Department of Animal Science at the Texas A&M College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. He received his DVM from the University of Missouri, his MS in veterinary anatomy from Texas A&M University, and is a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists.

In addition to his numerous publications, Dr. Varner has delivered lectures worldwide on the subject of stallion reproduction. His primary clinical and research emphasis relates to improving the fertility of stallions and the development of new technologies for evaluation and manipulation of gametes.
