About 30 4-H members visited the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s (VMTH) Large Animal Hospital (LAH) on Aug. 5 to learn about equine and food animal medicine from faculty members and veterinary students at the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM).

Joined by their 4-H staff chaperones, the group visited three stations at the Large Animal Hospital to see demonstrations on equine eye care, mouth exams of horses, and the microbiome in cattle and other ruminant animals.

With help from fourth-year veterinary students, these stations were run by clinical assistant professor Dr. Leslie Easterwood, clinical associate professor Dr. Joanne Hardy, clinical associate professor Dr. Cleet Griffin, and veterinary technicians Charles “C.W.” Haynes and James Mazurkiewicz.

The 4-H members who attended this visit were all children of professionals attending the 2019 AgriLife Beef Cattle Short Course in Rudder Tower.
