This summer, the Center for Educational Technologies (CET) at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) will be the first corporate sponsor from a veterinary school to host a Veterinary Entrepreneurship Academy (VEA) intern.

Jennifer Nary, a second-year veterinary student at the CVM, will be completing a 10-week internship at the CET starting the first week of June.

“The CET is very excited to be the first entrepreneurial team based within a veterinary school to serve as a commercial partner for a VEA intern,” said Danelle Weaver, CET associate director.

Nary said she first heard about the VEA during last fall’s Veterinary Innovation Day, then soon began the process of interviewing with companies for an internship position. Once she was matched with the CET, they worked to find the best way to utilize her time and skill set.

“Jennifer will support the creation of a business model canvas, value proposition, customer segmentation, and pricing model for our proprietary content authoring software StepStone,” Weaver said. “Knowledge gained from Jennifer’s efforts will help guide the CET as we create the StepStone business plan and marketing strategies.”

Nary hopes to open her own mixed animal practice veterinary clinic in the future and said she is very excited to learn business skills from the CET this summer.

“I know I definitely want to own my own business when I’m a veterinarian in a few years,” Nary said. “I don’t really have a lot of business experience so far, so that’s the main thing I want to get from this—to see how to run things and how to manage people and be part of a company.”

The CET uses innovative technologies to create high-impact educational programs to address today’s educational challenges. With help from subject matter experts, the CET makes unique and interactive learning experiences for students.

The VEA is a unique 10-week program that combines startups, students, universities and veterinary practices to accelerate animal health innovation. By combining a summer curriculum in entrepreneurship with a practical internship, this unique program educates, inspires, and activates veterinary students to become future leaders and innovators within the veterinary and pet industries.
