Dr. Lori Teller, a clinical professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences<\/a> (VMBS), has been awarded one of the highest honors in organized veterinary medicine, the 2025 American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AVMA Award recognizes one distinguished AVMA member each year who has exerted outstanding leadership in building stronger local, state, or regional associations or has contributed to the improvement of the national organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am honored and humbled to receive the AVMA award,\u201d Teller said. “I have been fortunate to have been mentored and supported by many amazing people, and I have dedicated to my career thus far to making life better for clients, patients, families, colleagues, and students. Organized veterinary medicine is the voice of the profession, and I appreciate the opportunities that I have had to contribute in some small way to a profession that I love. This award recognizes the work of so many people who have stood beside me, and for that I am eternally grateful.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout her career, Teller<\/a> has held pivotal professional leadership roles at both the state and national level \u2014 including the AVMA, Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA), Women\u2019s Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative, American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her tenure as AVMA president from 2022 to 2023, she advocated for veterinary medicine on a national level, representing more than 100,000 veterinary professionals through activities like congressional testimonies, media interviews, international meetings, and more. As an AVMA member since 1990, Teller has served the organization as vice chair, chair of the board of directors, chair of the State Advocacy Committee, and as a member of the house of delegates as well as serving on several other committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teller also has been a leader in telemedicine, playing a key role in formulating the AVMA\u2019s official policy on telemedicine and serving as the first full-time telehealth veterinarian in academia after joining the VMBS in 2018 to lead the college\u2019s VirtualVet telehealth program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Texas, Teller served as president of both the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association and TVMA. She was awarded the \u201cVisionary of the Year\u201d Award from the Southwest Veterinary Symposium in 2019 and the TVMA President\u2019s Award in 2007, 2009, 2016, and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of her roles in organized veterinary medicine organization, Teller educates veterinary students at all levels and treats patients in the Texas A&M Small Animal Teaching Hospital<\/a>\u2019s Primary Care Service<\/a>. Teller received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Texas A&M in 1990 and is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
