- Canine Rehabilitation
Biography
Dr. Katherine Barnes received her D.V.M. from Oregon State University in 2011, which was followed by a rotating small animal internship at Cornell University in 2012, and a combined small animal surgery residency and Master's in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2015. After her residency, Dr. Barnes joined the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as an Assistant Professor. In 2018, she joined the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M University as a Clinical Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Dr. Barnes’ research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of various clinical orthopedic diseases, and she has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery and 3D printing. She has chaired 5 master’s committees, mentored 10 D.V.M students, 2 faculty members, 9 small animal rotating interns, and 20 small animal surgery residents. She is a faculty member with AO Vet (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen) a group dedicated to teaching veterinary orthopedic surgery throughout North America, and is a member of a small international group of veterinary orthopedic specialists tasked with developing new implants designed to fill the needs of the global veterinary orthopedic community.
