Mechanisms of invasion and survival of intracellular bacteria within host cells; study of bacterial and host gene expression during infection and its use in the development and application of biosignatures; development of improved vaccines using genetic approaches to attenuate survival and identify therapeutic targets; development of subunit vaccines. Characterization of bacterial population structures through genomic analysis.
