Biography

"While I originally wanted to go into general practice immediately following veterinary school, life had a very different plan for my career. I originally came to Texas A&M in 2019 thinking I would only spend a few years here finishing my PhD, and ended up falling in love with the people and culture here at the College of Biomedical Sciences and within the teaching hospital and gastrointestinal lab. My clinical research interests involve assessment of both local gastrointestinal and peripheral (systemic) immunity in response to pharmacologic and dietary interventions in canine and feline GI tract disease. These include immune-mediated, infectious, and oncologic disorders of the stomach and small and large intestines. A long-term career goal of mine is to reduce overall morbidity and mortality in patients with these diseases, primarily through optimization of diagnostics and therapeutics. The role of clinician scientist and educator allows for me to continually learn from my trainees and colleagues on a daily basis, which makes me a better veterinarian. I am also extremely passionate about the education of students, interns, and medical residents, and have an interest in mental health wellbeing in veterinary medicine. I am the current chair of our Small Animal House Officer Wellbeing Committee, and it is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. I strongly believe that our profession should recognize that taking care of the people who take care of animals is of paramount importance in providing the best veterinary care."
