Role of protein structure in health and disease, particularly in neurological disease. 1) Structure and function of neurotransmitter-gated ion channels: nicotinic acetylcholine, serotonin 5HT3, glycine, and GABAA receptors from eukaryotes and prokaryotes. 2) Interpreting electrophysiologic properties of ligand gated ion channels, including cyclic nucleotide gated channels, in terms of structure and thermodynamics. 3) Computational modeling of electrophysiologic function of cochlear hair cells. 4) Comparative genomics of electric fish. 5) Clinical neuropathology.
