My background combines advanced clinical training in large-animal medicine and surgery with research expertise in immunology, emerging viral diseases, vaccine development, and One Health. My previous research examined the pathogenesis, immune responses, evolution, and transmission of arboviruses—including Venezuelan and eastern equine encephalitis and chikungunya viruses—and contributed to the development and evaluation of vaccines, animal models, and antiviral strategies. These experiences align closely with the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ strengths in veterinary education, infectious disease research, translational science, and the advancement of animal, human, and public health.
