Lauren Stranahan

Biography

Lauren W. Stranahan, DVM, DACVP, PhD

I am from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and moved to Texas in 2016 after graduating with my DVM from North Carolina State University to pursue a residency and PhD in anatomic pathology. Following completion of these programs in 2022, I joined the faculty at Texas A&M University. Currently, I serve as the director of the Dermatopathology Specialty Service and the Surgical Biopsy Service. I love dermatopathology and was fortunate during my residency to receive training from renowned dermatopathologists, Drs. Joanne Mansell, Aline Rodrigues-Hoffmann, and Dominque Wiener. 

My research is collaborative and involves projects investigating novel treatments and diagnostic monitoring techniques for skin wounds in animals. I am also interested in investigating the pathogenesis of cutaneous epitheliotropic lymphoma in dogs, a malignant skin cancer that carries a poor prognosis and for which effective therapy is currently limited. My colleagues and I hope to better characterize the molecular and genetic mechanisms giving rise to this cancer to pave the way for development of more effective, targeted therapies. I also enjoy collaborating with my colleagues on diverse research projects, including using organoids to investigate the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis in dogs. 

I have a passion for teaching and greatly enjoy the interactions I have with veterinary students as well as with clinicians on the Dermatopathology Service. In my spare time, I enjoy bird watching and visiting Texas’s State Parks.
