Biography

"I am first and foremost a clinical educator, with a strong interest in the development and mentorship of veterinary students and new graduates. Most of my work time is spent in direct contact with final year veterinary students, interns and residents, working together in a busy clinical environment. I have learned to balance their needs with those of the patients and their owners. Clinical teaching has its own unique challenges, and a successful outcome requires more than simple content expertise. In an effort to improve my own teaching skills, I have completed to a Master’s of Science in Veterinary Education through the Royal Veterinary College; this has empowered me to be a more creative and innovative teacher.

I enjoy all aspects of internal medicine, but am particularly interested in feline medicine, endocrinology and gastroenterology. Most of my research is focused on these topics, and is prompted by a desire to provide better care for my patients and to know more about their disease processes. I try to include students and house officers in my clinical studies and projects as I am keenly aware of how much I benefited from this sort of mentorship at the start of my career.

Hands-on, procedure-driven care also interests me, and I am involved in the development of new techniques and the introduction of novel procedures to Texas A&M. I want this school to be on the forefront of innovative care options, and am working hard to achieve that goal."
