Programs

Shadow PupShadow Program

In the Shadow Program, PVS members who apply will be matched with a veterinarian for an unpaid volunteer position observing clinical procedures and cases based on student interest and clinical availability. This is a great opportunity to observe different aspects of the profession that may provide guidance to a particular specialty or area of interest in this very diverse field of medicine!

Opportunities are based on veterinary participation and may not be available in all areas, but this program is not limited to clinics in the College Station area. Students must be motivated and possess respectable academic and moral integrity. Priority is based on applicants’ graduation year, the order in which applications are received, and overall participation in PVS. Hours earned through the Shadow Program may not be used for points toward PVS distinguished membership.

The Shadow Program is available for Winter, Spring, and Summer Sessions!

After each session, participating veterinary clinics and hospitals will be reassigned to different students. This allows all Pre-Vet Society members the opportunity to experience a variety of clinic environments.

NOTE: You must be a general member of PVS—meaning dues be paid and the Member Contact Form must be filled out—prior to applying for the Shadow Program. Additionally, you must have health and automobile insurance in order to participate.

Commitment Agreement

If a PVS member drops out of the Shadow Program for non-emergent reasons or fails to participate fully, the member will be barred from the program for two sessions and will not be eligible for Distinguished Membership for the current semester. When applying for the Shadow Program a second time, the member will be given last priority.

Vehicle Policy

It is a requirement that you have a vehicle, or other means of transportation, in order to participate in the Shadow Program. By applying to the Shadow Program you are verifying that you have transportation in order to commute to and from the location at which you are matched. Please make sure to plan accordingly to arrive on time and anticipate any possible traffic delays. If you are driving to the clinic site, you must provide your automobile insurance information on the Risk Release Waiver.

Orientation and To-Do List

It is up to members interested in applying to read the Orientation Document and follow all guidelines within it.
