Inaugural Schubot Director’s Awards Presented

PhD student Paulina Escandon and recent graduate Dr. Jeann Leal were selected as recipients of the inaugural Schubot Director’s Award to recognize the contributions of trainees to advancing bird health research.

The Schubot Avian Health Director’s Award was established in 2019 in honor of Dr. Ian Tizard (Schubot Director from 1999–2017), for an undergrad, graduate, or veterinary student who excels in avian health research and has contributed to the mission and operations of the Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center. The award recipient should have demonstrated research excellence on a topic regarding health issues affecting exotic or wild birds. Nominations are accepted annually from March 1–March 25 by Schubot Director Dr. Sarah Hamer via Aviary Manager Debra Turner. The award will be given annually esch April at the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences Honors & Awards Ceremony. Self-nominations are accepted.
