The Veterinary Medical Student Research Training Program (VMSRTP) provides stipends to first- and second-year veterinary students for a summer research experience. Students are accepted from Texas A&M University and from other colleges of veterinary medicine.

The VMSRTP is funded by awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program, the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation, and the William & Doris Klemm Fellowship, and by the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.

About the VMSRTP

Student fellows conduct mentored research during a 13-week period in the summer. The experience is supplemented with field trips to other research institutions, a TAMU research conference, and the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium.

Schedule / Important Dates

The formal program will begin on Monday, May 15, 2017, with two half-days of orientation to biomedical research. The summer concludes with our local research conference and travel to the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium.

On-line applications are accepted from all veterinary students in their 1st or 2nd years.

VMSRTP fellows have gone on to complete PhDs and achieve board certification in Veterinary Pathology, Laboratory Animal Medicine, and Internal Medicine. See abstracs of their VMSRTP projects.

Faculty mentors are available in a variety of disciplines from the CVM in addition to the Colleges of Medicine, Agriculture & Life Sciences, Engineering, and the Institute of Biosciences & Technology.
