Expansions
Making Room for More
Over the last three decades, the Stevenson Center has grown with increases in the number of long-term pet care residents, veterinary student residents, undergraduate student workers, full-time staff, and visitors. Because of this growth, the center has completed three different expansions that have enlarged the space from its original footprint of ~4,800 sq. ft. to ~15,700 sq. ft.
Expansion #3: 2024
Our latest expansion, begun in 2023 and dedicated in 2024, adds an additional 4,700 sq. ft. to our facility, ensuring that we continue to provide our current level of excellent long-term pet care for our residents in a home-like environment. The total space of the center after this addition was ~15,700 sq. ft. The new building includes five new dog rooms with individual play yards, three cat rooms with their own sunrooms, a food prep room, a laundry room, an additional bathroom, and a lounge for our team and long-term pet care residents.

Expansion #2: 2013
The Stevenson Center began construction on its 3,300 sq. ft. second addition to the original building in July 2012. The date of completion was March 2013. The total space of the center after this addition was ~11,000 sq. ft.

Expansion #1: 2004
The Stevenson Center received its first resident pets in 1993. Within its first decade, the number of pets enrolled in our program grew rapidly, making it necessary to expand our facility. The center received approximately $685,000 in gifts and matching funds to construct the first addition. Construction of the building began in November 2003 and was completed in August 2004.

This floor plan gives a view of the new 3,500 sq. ft. addition to the Stevenson Center. The building provides additional living space for student residents and pet residents. Once the first expansion was completed, the center had 8,300 sq. ft. of space to house approximately 60 dogs, cats, and birds.
