Reintroduced macaws learning how to forage wild foods at Bosque Escondido, Costa Rica
This month, we’ve seen lots of macaws foraging in the Lagartillo trees (Zanthoxylum septinatum), including four we released in April and even one from just last month’s release!
What’s truly fascinating is that they never had Lagartillo in their enrichment because it wasn’t fruiting when they were in the aviaries. These macaws learned to forage for it by observing those released before them. Nature in action!
